I was born in the USA during the Carter administration, and I remember that he was considered to be a bad president by everyone who voted for Ronald Regan. By the time Bush Sr. was defeated by Bill Clinton, I was masturbating — though I had little talent for it at the time.
Bush Jr. was elected president in the very first election I was allowed to vote in, and Obama was the first time that a politician who I truly supported was elected. Obama was a major disappointment, politically, although he was the coolest president ever.
After Obama came…
Several nameless and sexless Benedictine Monks from Carcassonne in the south of France are credited with making the first sparkling wine — and it was probably really terrible. The monks of Carcassonne bottled white wine before fermentation was complete and trapped the carbon dioxide gas from the yeast inside the bottle to create sparkling wine. Why? Well we can assume this wasn’t much different than the worst and hardest lemonade you’ve ever had, mixed with too much cheap vodka.
Christopher Merret, an English physician and scientist, is actually the one who figured out that a better way to produce sparkling…
I love Riesling, because the epic story of this ancient and dynamic wine is enough to keep any happy hour conversation going on for hours.
No other beverage is as intertwined with the story of humanity than wine — and Riesling is no exception. This is probably because no other fruit known to man manifests in so many different forms, flavors, fragrances, and sensations. Just like people, the wine grape vitis vinifera has thousands of varieties, of which almost all are useless, save a few dozen — these have become the world-famous celebrity grape varietals we all know and love.
Milton Friedman, perhaps the most influential economist of the 20th century, once said that:
“A society that puts equality before freedom will end up with neither”.
Friedman was absolutely right.
Illiberal Progressives — the group of self-proclaimed woke-thinkers who have hijacked both the liberal side of the political spectrum as well as the Democratic Party in America — believe that they, and only they, have the recipe for freeing oppressed groups. …
Texas joined the USA with a very specific clause: If the republic of Texas agrees to join the union of the United States of America, then it will be allowed to leave anytime it likes.
The agreement should have been the other way around.
Ironically, shortly after joining the Union, Texas joined the Confederacy and seceded from the USA, and became an important contributor to the southern cause during the civil war.
The USA should never have let them back in, and in fact, many in Texas wanted to remain separate after the war.
The recent law in Texas prohibiting…
After decades of being a verboten ideology, many in the American Democratic Party are now heralding Socialism as a magic-bullet solution to the many problems facing America — this coincides with a resurgence in the misguided and absurd popularity of Socialist ideology that has been heavily promoted on Twitter by the ignorant. In America, capitalism is now under attack by proponents of Democratic Socialism, the ideological darling which is now popular due primarily to the plight of many millennials and younger people.
This is happening because for many in America, capitalism just simply doesn’t seem to be working.
Let me preface this article by saying that I moved away from the USA before the half-time mark of the Trump Administration anti-reality show. I am definitely not a Trumper — I detest the MAGA and Take America Back movements. Other than the now ancient history mayoral races in New York City where I voted for Rudy Giuliani and Michael Bloomberg (who himself later defected from the GOP), I have never voted for any Republican to hold a major office.
Unfortunately, I’ve been on the wrong side.
As my father said to me years ago, as voters we must pick…
When Bill Clinton said “it depends on what the meaning of the word ‘is’ is,” I applauded his tenacity and ability to thwart his relentless persecutors. I didn’t care that he got blown in the oval office by an intern, and I thought anyone that did care was just jealous.
When Al Gore stood up and said that climate change (at the time global warming) was the single greatest threat of the modern era, I enthusiastically voted for him. …
Afghanistan is a popular topic at the moment, because America just fought a 20 year war there and lost. But before losing, the USA detained a lot of people captured in Afghanistan at the prison in “Gitmo.”
During the years that Gitmo prison was at it’s height of operation, it was accused of being in violation with the Geneva Convention rules on human rights because prisoners were detained indefinitely, waterboarded, and had their heads covered in strange black hoods.
Sure, that’s simplifying things, but you can use Google if don’t already know what I’m talking about.
All this happened just…
What is V1 airspeed? It is the speed at which refusal to fly is impossible, when anything short of full commitment will almost certainly result in destruction — the only sane choice is to leave the ground.
If you are paying attention, you can feel when V1 has been attained.
It is the point in time when we know the inevitability of what comes next.
Those who are used to flying will surrender, while those who are scared brace themselves in a futile attempt to protect against the only thing that offers a chance to live — flight.
